Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Bad Newz’ has been out for a week, and in those days, the film has stayed mostly consistent. This modestly budgeted film was only released in a small number of theaters, maybe 1500. The fact that it had an opening of more than Rs 8 crore and experienced growth over the weekend, with collections over Rs 10 crore on its first Saturday and Sunday, made the industry delighted.
Directed by Anand Tiwari, the film, released on July 19, has made a total collection of ₹78.30 crore globally. Dharma Productions shared the update on its X handle on Friday with a poster from the film, which read, “A Worldwide Entertainer! 78.30 crore in 1 week”. The caption stated, “Breaking Newz: ‘#BadNewz’ is taking over the globe with its dhamakedaar entertainment!”
According to reports, the expected budget for the movie is anything from Rs 30 to Rs 80 crores. This large-scale investment emphasizes the scope of the production and the high standards for its execution. To guarantee a profitable box office run, a sizeable amount of this budget is devoted to marketing, special effects, and cast wages.
The story of the movie centers on Saloni Bagga, played by Triptii Dimri, who suffers from heteropaternal superfecundation, a rare medical disease that results in twins born to the same mother but distinct biological fathers. Akhil Chadha and Gurbir Singh, who play Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk, fight with one another to see who can be the finest parent for the kids and the most worthy to win Saloni’s heart.
Vicky Kaushal’s Reference to his own Movies
Stereotypes that you hope had faded by now abound in Bad Newz: women preferring their careers over marriage, mumma’s boys being reckless husbands, Punjabis liking rajma chawal, and so on. Even though this movie isn’t really funny, I appreciated how the creators skillfully included some amazing meta jokes that truly pop. The script does a good job of incorporating references to Dimri as Bhabhi 2 and “National Crush,” a scene in which Gurbir tells Akhil not to act like Vicky Sandhu from Manmarziyaan, or another scene in which Kaushal stops Virk from throwing a photo of Katrina Kaif by saying, “Iske liye toh tujhe meri laash se guzarna hoga” (you’ll have to go over my dead body).”
Vicky Kaushal’s dance hit “Tauba Tauba” had set the tone for a fantastic start for his most recent album, Bad Newz, and that’s precisely what happened. The movie had a very strong opening weekend, earning Rs 29.7 crore, and finished the first week with Rs 42.85 crore. Upon closer inspection, though, it became clear that the movie had been declining throughout the weekend, except a Tuesday bump that was primarily caused by the “Buy One Get One” promotion.
Vicky Kaushal’s Bad Newz comparison to Other Latest Movies
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh asserts that Bad Newz has been “impacted” by the new entrant, despite the fact that the little decline in numbers may indicate Bad Newz is holding its own against the strong Hollywood contender. On the plus side, though, he also said that the collection ought to rise during the course of the weekend. This weekend, Bad Newz is anticipated to reach the ₹50 crore mark at the domestic box office.
Deadpool & Wolverine, the buddy superhero film starring Shawn Levy, has begun to rule the Indian box office, despite the fact that no Bollywood film has been launched this week.
Fortunately, the crazy and glittery first part is a lot of fun. The bad news is that the second half is depressing because it is dominated by groans and sighs. Overall, uneventful because it disobeys Rom Com Rule No. 1: “Never let the laughs get old.”
